International TableTop Day

Do you need an excuse to pull out that old board game that has been gathering dust in your closet?

Have you bought a new tabletop game, but haven’t found the time to get people together to play it?

Well, my friends, clear your schedules, because March 30th is International TableTop Day!

International TableTop Day falls on the one year anniversary of Wil Wheaton’s popular online show, TableTop. I have mentioned before that TableTop is how I’ve discovered some new board games that I would never have played before, including Dixit, Tsuro, Small World, and many others. Not only are tabletop games fun, they are also beneficial for us as well. From the International TableTop Day website:

International TableTop Day is a reminder to spend more time and strengthen the bonds with the people who matter most, our friends and family, by playing games together. Tabletop gaming promotes many positive social and cognitive benefits like increased communication, team work, planning, and is an excellent stress relieving activity for all ages. – See more at: http://www.tabletopday.com/index.php/about

Since International TableTop Day happens near the end of our spring vacation, we have already started making plans to spend part of that weekend playing board games with our friends. I am so excited to be able to sit with them and play board games well into the evening with some of my favorite people. What games will you play on International TableTop Day?

If you’ve never seen an episode of TableTop, go check it out! You might just discover your new favorite board game.

I love Wil Wheaton’s show for that reason. I’ve found so many new games thanks to TableTop!
